Varhadi khichadi, this special dish belongs to Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. Widely made throughout Maharashtra, this dish is a boon to the busy home makers with toddlers or working women who find it difficult to cook for long time as this is made within 20 minutes that too without much attention. Similar to the regular khichdi, what makes it stand out is the tempering (tadka) that adds a unique flavor & essence to the dish. Preparation Time: 5 Minutes
For Khichadi:
Mix rice and tovar dal Wash rice and tovar dal.
Boil 6 cup of water, add turmeric powder, salt comes to boil, add rice and toor dal.
Pressure cook until 3 whistle and and let the khichdi cook. or you can also do it into the heavy bottom pan or pot.
Once khichadi cooked prepare tempering or tadka.
For tempering heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
Then add hing, garlic cloves and red chillies.
Saute till garlic become brown in colour.
Turn off the heat and keep aside.
While serving, take khichidi in serving plate, crumble and mix fried mirchi and papad.
And add little tadka, mix well and eat hot.
