Sandan | Sandan Recipe | How to Make Sandan

Sandan or Sannan is a traditional recipe mainly made in Maharashtra and the

southern coast of India. It is a healthy and tasty dish made with rice rava and

grated coconut. This steamed dish is one of the must make dishes for the

Ganapati Bappa devotees during Ganesh Chaturthi. Other recipes for Ganesh

Chaturthi areUkadiche Modak, Almond Modak, Kaju Mawa Modak and Dates

and Dry Fruits Modak. This is among those few dishes that is filling for the

tummy but light on the waist food that you will keep craving for. This Sandan

recipe have various versions where some use rice flour as the main ingredient

and some use whole rice and cucumber as the main. But this is the recipe of

the classic Sandan made throughout Maharashtra.

 

So let’s get started with the Sandan Recipe:

 

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cooking Time: 30 Minutes

Total Time: 40 Minutes

 

Ingredients:

1) 1 cup rice rava

2) 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut

3) 1/2 cup sugar

4) 2 tbsp ghee

5) Pinch of salt

6) Cardamom powder

 

Method: 

Heat 1 & 1/2 tbsp ghee in a pan add  add rava and begin to roast on medium low heat.

Meanwhile heat water in different pan.

Saute rava in between roast till you get nice aroma, do not brown the rava.

Now add boiled water and keep on stirring.

Once the water absorbed add grated fresh coconut, salt and stir it.

Once the mixture dry add sugar, stir it.

Be careful the mixture should not stuck to the bottom of the pan.

Now add cardamom powder and keep a lid and let it cook for another few minutes on medium low heat.

Grace the plate at the base with remaining ghee.

Pour the mixture on graced plate and spread it.

Place the plate into steamer and steam on high heat for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes just insert the knife into mixture and if it comes out clean,  then it is cooked otherwise cook for another few minutes.

Remove from flame, cool and cut into square or diamonds shape.

 

How To make Sadan step by step with images:
