Navratri is the festival of Hindu deity which is celebrated all over the country. During this period people fast for 9 days and worship Goddess Durga. Each day represents different avatars of Goddess Durga. The 6 day is dedicated to Maa Katyayani who is known as the avatar of Goddess Durga. According to Hindu culture, Maa Katyayani is the daughter of Sage Katya.

During this period, though fasting, people enjoy Navratri fast recipes. Sabudana khichdi along with vegetable of potatoes, kheer and other dishes made from kuttu ka atta are the most famous Navratri fast recipes indulged in this festival. Navratri fast recipes are free of onion, garlic and grains, as it is restricted for these auspicious 9 days. They use special salt known as Sendha salt which should be consumed during this period.

Devotees also enjoy Garbha nights, that is a musical arrangement made in public places for people to dance and celebrate for these 9 days. Participants wear colorful dresses and matching jewelry which makes the entire celebration even more colorful and vibrant. The color of the sixth day this year is Yellow, hence the women and men will sport  Yellow color attire.
