Moong Dal Khichdi

A yellow, semi-solid dish which is fast and easy to make at home.

Rice and moong dal are the basic ingredients of moong dal khichdi.

Moong dal khichdi is easy to digest and light on tummy.

Moong dal khichdi is a basic full meal.

It can be given to babies as its soft and also elders who have a problem chewing. Moong dal khichdi is best served piping with a spoonful of ghee.

You can also add any  vegetable of your choice if required.

I have used green peas.

Curd, papad or just a small quantity of pickle are best to accompany your simple favourite dish.

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes

Cook Time: 10 Minutes

Total Time: 40 Minutes

Serves for 2-3

 

Ingredients:

1) 1/2 cup Rice

2) 1/2 cup Yellow split moong dal

3)  1 small sized onion

4) 1 small sized tomato

5) 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

6) 1 small green chili

7) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

8) 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

9) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

10) Pinch of asafoetida

11) 3.5 cup Water

12) 1.5 tbs ghee

13) 4-5 curry leaves

14) 1/2 cup green pease

15) Salt as per taste

 

How to make moong dal khichadi:

Rinse and wash moong dal and rice together.

Soak it for 30 minutes in enough water.

Pressure cook with 3.5 cup of water and a little salt.

Heat a ghee in pan add mustard seeds, once it crackle add cumin seeds, curry leaves and then add sliced onion.

Once the onion become translucent, then add chopped tomatoes,ginger garlic paste and green chilies.

Stir it and add asafoetida,  turmeric powder and saute it.

Cook until tomatoes turn soft and mushy.

Add the cooked rice and dal mixture to the onion tomato mixture.

Add little water and cook on low  heat for 3-4 minutes.

Check for salt and if require add as per taste.

Once it cook properly drizzle a tsp of ghee and serve with papad.

How to make moong dal khichadi:

6) Stir it and add asafoetida,  turmeric powder and saute it. Cook until tomatoes turn soft and mushy. Add the cooked rice and dal mixture to the onion tomato mixture.

7) Add little water and cook on low  heat for 3-4 minutes. Check for salt and if require add as per taste.

8) Once it cook properly drizzle a teaspoon of ghee and serve with papad.
