Moong Dal Halwa | How to Make Moong Dal Halwa

It’s a known fact that we Indians love anything and everything sweet! Indian cuisine is loaded with different varieties of sweet dishes. While some of them are too complicated and take hours to make, some are really easy, simple and quick. Today I am going to share one of the simplest and (almost) effortless sweet dish – Moong Dal Halwa. Made with Moong Dal, a lentil you can easily find in Indian kitchens, this dish is absolutely delicious. With medium sweetness and mild essence of cardamom, this Moong Dal Halwa Recipe will gain you loads of compliments. This is an excellent way of getting your little ones eat some dal while also getting the benefit of milk & nuts. Be sure to add the cardamom powder in the end as it gives a great aroma to the halwa.

Preparation Time:  15 Minutes

Cooking Time: 30 Minutes

Total Time: 45 Minutes

Serves for 3.

 

Ingredients:

1) 1 cup Ghee

2) 1 cup yellow moong dal flour

3)  2 cup hot milk

4) 5-6 Almonds

5) 5-6 Pistachios

6) 5-6 Cashewnuts

7) Cardamom Powder

 

Method:

Melt ghee in a heavy bottom pan.

Add moong dal flour and sauté till it changes colour or till it gets aromatic.

Break the lumps while stirring and roast the flour on low flame.

While the flour is roasting, boil milk in another pan and keep aside.

Once the aroma of the flour turns nutty, add the boiled milk, be careful while adding milk as the mixture will sizzle.

Stir well and simmer the flame.

Add chopped pistachios, almonds, cashewnuts. Mix well.

Add sugar, mix well and keep a lid. Let it cook for another 10 minutes on low flame.

Add cardamom powder and stir it.

Serve hot.
