Avoid splattering or spilling oil on a hot range burner.
- Preheat the frying oil in the electric deep fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Fill deep fryer with oil to no more than half capacity.
- Fill the frying basket with frozen Tater Tots to no more than half capacity. Gently lower the basket into the boiling oil.
- Cook 3 to 4 minutes.

How do you pan-fry potato wedges?
IN ORDER TO COOK FROZEN POTATO TOTS IN AN AIR FRYER – Spray the air fryer’s basket with cooking spray Put as many tater tots in the basket as your frying will accommodate (handful) At 400 degrees, cook for 18 to 20 minutes. Shake thoroughly at least once while cooking.
- Do not defrost the potato chips. It is not necessary to defrost frozen Tater tots prior to cooking them in an air fryer, since they cook optimally straight from the freezer.
- Cook them in batches if you are preparing a large quantity of tots. The ideal way to cook the tater tots is in a single layer with some space between them. If you pack the tray or basket with tots too tightly, they will steam rather than get crisp. Spread them out a little for deliciously crisp air-fried potato wedges.
- The cooking time may vary based on the type of air fryer utilized. Since I prefer my tator tots on the crispier side, I typically cook them for the whole 20 minutes using the Instant Vortex.
- Use any ingredients you like on these tots cooked in an air fryer! Potato tots are a blank canvas, and while Lawry’s is our favorite seasoning mix, you may use whatever flavor combination you like to flavor these air fryer tater tots. Other favorites include Italian spice, garlic powder, onion powder, and taco seasoning.
- This method of air-frying will work with any tater tot or potato variety. Depending on the brand, they may be referred to as potato puffs or potato crowns. Additionally, you might utilize any form of fry shape.
Can I cook frozen fries directly?
Sautéing – For a healthy choice or if you don’t have enough oil, you can still obtain golden-brown French fries with less oil. Sautéing frozen French fries resembles sautéing fresh potatoes.
- Pour a little quantity of oil onto a large nonstick skillet, as you would when sautéing other items. Note that if you do not have oil, clarified butter can be substituted.
- Once the pan is heated, place the frozen French fries in a single layer on the pan. If your skillet is too small, cook the French fries in many batches as opposed to crowding them. Again, a single layer of fries will ensure even browning and crispiness.
- Consider covering the fries with a splatter screen to reduce the amount of oil splashing. However, avoid using a lid because the French fries are already cooked, and a lid would just make them soggy.
- While waiting for the underside to get golden and crispy, you may season the fries.
- Fry your French fries for four to five minutes without stirring. Then, flip the fries to brown the other side, and repeat the procedure until all sides are golden brown. Note that if you flip the fries too soon, they will likely break or become mushy.
Oil derived from plants is the finest oil for deep-frying. Canola oil and peanut oil are also widely used. While vegetable oil, canola oil, and peanut oil are the most often used oils for deep frying, you may also pick from the following: Grapeseed Oil.

Tater Tots Prepared in an Air Fryer – Instructions
- Preheat. Set the Air Fryer temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the basket of the air fryer.
- Single Layer. Try to maintain the tater tots in a single layer in the basket of the air fryer. It’s acceptable if they overlap somewhat.
- Air-Fried. Cook the tater tots at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes, tossing them every 4 minutes. Add an additional 1 to 2 minutes for crispier fries.
