Kelyachi Bhaji  is a well-known dish down south. Although not an unknown dish for other Indian states, the recipe there differs from the one enjoyed in the western & southern India. This Kelyachi Bhaji is cooked in a coconut based gravy, that makes a finger licking combination. This Raw Banana Sabji is made with peeled and diced raw bananas unlike some of the recipes that use the skin too. Easy to make, this Raw Banana Sabji can be your go to dish, as Raw Bananas are easily available in the market, throughout the year. Preparation Time:  10 Minutes

Total Time: 25 Minutes

Serves for 2.

 

Ingredients:

 

1) 2 raw bananas

2) 1 tbsp oil

3) 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

4) 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds

5) 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds

6) Pinch of asafoetida

7) 1 tsp red chilly powder

8) 1 tsp turmeric powder

9) 1 tsp garam masala

10) Chopped coriander

11) 4-5 Curry leaves

12) 1/2 cup of grated fresh coconut

13) Salt to taste

 

Method:

 

Peel, dice and soak banana in water.

In a pan heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, pinch of asafoetida and ginger garlic paste sauté for a minute.

Then add diced banana, turmeric powder and  red chilly powder, garam masala, salt, chopped coriander and sauté.

Add water and let it cook.

Grind grated fresh coconut with some water.

Pour this coconut mixture to banana and mix well.

Cover with lid and let it cook till the banana cooks.

Serve hot with chapati or plain rice.
