Karlyachi Bhaji | How to make Karela Sabji | Karela Recipe

Karela, also known as bitter melon or bitter gourd is the king of bitterness among fruits and

vegetables. But this bitter vegetable brings along amazing health benefits. It is one among the few

vegetables that has amazing medicinal properties.

Along with being used to treat diabetes, it also helps in treating various other health problems like upset stomach, constipation, kidney stone, liver problems etc.

So to benefit from this healthy vegetable, I have a tasty way out – Karlyachi Bhaji.

This authentic Maharashtrian karela sabji will help you serve this super-vegetable to your family without hassle as it takes away the bitterness, leaving back only the amazing taste and healing properties.

Preparation Time: 25 Minutes

Cooking Time: 20 Minutes

Total Time: 45 Minutes

Serve for 2.

Ingredients: 

 

1) 4 bitter gourd (Karela)

2) 2 medium sized onion finely chopped

3) 4 green chilies

4) 4 Crushed garlic

5) 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut

6) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

7) Salt as per taste

8) 2 tbsp Oil for tempering

 

Method:

Wash bitter gourd and cut them.

If you see any bigger seeds remove them with a spoon or peeler.

Now chop them into smaller equal sized pieces.

Add these chopped pieces to the bowl with little salt and turmeric powder  mix it well.

The salt will take away  some bitterness.

In kadai heat oil.

Add chopped onion and saute till translucent,  now add chopped green chilies, crushed garlic and finally chopped bitter gourd.

Stir it for 15 minutes.

once the  bitter  gourd change the colour and cooked properly add grated fresh coconut and mix well.

Taste it and if require add more salt as per your taste.

Serve it with amti  and rice or rice bhakri.
