Gavar bhaji is a common dish made with dal rice in our homes.

It can also be had with chapatis.

Gavar is actually slim cluster beans. Gavar is consumed in almost every state in India.

This recipe has many versions depending on the region its made.

I will share with you the authentic Maharashtrian style of gavar bhaji.

We have added potatoes in this gavar bhaji recipe.

Gavar bhaji is made utilizing minimal ingredients and basic spices we use daily.

Owing to slightly bitter taste, gavar is not everyones favourite.

The nutritional benefit of gavar is its rich in glyconutrients that help in sugar levels in blood.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 20 Minutes

Total Time: 30 Minutes

Serve for 2.

 

Ingredients:

1) 1/4 kg gavar ( Cluster beans)

2) 1 small sized potato

3) 1 chopped onion

4) 2-3 tbsp grated fresh coconut

5) 1 tsp red chilly powder

6) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds powder

7) 1/2 tsp coriander powder

8) Turmeric powder

9) 1 tbsp Oil

10) 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

11) Pinch of asafoetida

12) 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

13) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

14) 4-5 Curry Leaves

15) Salt as per taste

 

Method:

Wash gavar thoroughly  and pat dry with cloth.

Remove ends and strings of each gavar.

Peel the potato and chop them into a medium cubs.

Heat oil for tempering add mustard seeds, then asafoetida, curry leaves, add finely chopped onion, ginger garlic paste saute for a minutes add red chilly powder, cumin seed powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder saute them for few seconds.

Add gavar, potato cubes, salt mix well and add little water and close the lid.

Cook gavar and potato for 9-10 minutes.

Check if the gavar is cooked by pressing it with spatula.

Now add fresh coconut and mix well.

Gavar bhaji is ready to serve.

This bhaji taste nice with chapati or with dal rice.

1) Wash gavar thoroughly  and pat dry with cloth. Remove ends and strings of each gavar. Then pluck and make 1 inch pieces.
