26 Things You Need to Know About the Marco’s Pizza Franchise
Opens the 1,000th store, marking a significant milestone. To commemorate its 1,000th restaurant, Marco’s Pizza announced the official launch of its Kissimmee, Florida location in late October 2020.The brand’s journey to 1,000 stores has been an incredible one, beginning with an Italian founder, Pasquale Giammarco, and a dream of creating a pizza brand, continuing with CEO Jack Butorac, who discovered a tremendous growth opportunity, and culminating with the immigrant entrepreneurs – Kattya Barbaran and Rafi Vargas – who are behind the brand’s 1,000th store.2.Marco’s Pizza has celebrated the opportunities that franchising has provided from its inception to this historic time.Franchisees may seek business ownership while also contributing to the development of a national brand alongside other like-minded, enthusiastic entrepreneurs, according to the company.
In addition, Butorac stated, ″Watching this firm develop from its humble beginnings in Ohio to become a well-known pizza brand around the country has been nothing short of miraculous.″ As a result, we have the highest-quality product in the business as well as an outstanding leadership team as well as a collection of fantastic franchise partners and hardworking team members. Our irresistible power is formed when all of these things come together.″ 4.Fast forward to 2020, and Marco’s Pizza launches its 1,000th location with the help of a couple of immigrant entrepreneurs who, like Marco’s, recognized promise in the primo pizza model.Barbaran and Vargas both emigrated to the United States with the ambition of starting their own business and giving back to their respective families back home in Colombia.Their extensive industry knowledge and unrivaled work ethic made them the ideal choice to launch this landmark site, which will serve as a platform for the next 1,000 locations to follow.5.
Vargas stated, ″When I was a youngster growing up in the Dominican Republic, I never imagined that one day I would have the opportunity to start my own business.″ The discovery of an amazing partner in Kattya – someone who was so driven and enthusiastic, who had an entrepreneurial attitude with us, and who would urge us to establish this landmark shop – made this possible.″ 6.Barbaran went on to say, ″While life may throw you several problems, your success will be decided by your capacity to rise above the circumstances, remain resolute, and put your people first.″ Despite our difficulties and in the midst of a global epidemic, this is precisely what we did – and it provided us with the chance to realize a goal that we had shared since childhood.″ Marco’s has remained dedicated to expansion in 2020, having opened 51 outlets as of October with upwards of 80 sites anticipated to open in total in 2020 despite the epidemic.Additionally, it has 89 new store commitments in the queue and has achieved unprecedented sales milestones, all while helping communities around the country as part of its ″You Can Count on Marco’s Pizza″ commitment to them.
Marco’s Pizza, according to Tony Libardi, the company’s president and then-chief operating officer (COO), ″is built on the strength of our franchisees, devoted team members, and long-term consumers.″ 9.This is only the beginning of the enormous growth opportunities that lie ahead for us.″ ″We have developed a fantastic culture that continues to strengthen as we extend our countrywide reach, and this is only the beginning of the huge growth potential that lie ahead for us.″ The only national pizza business started by a native Italian, Marco’s, is number nine on the list.Known for its fresh dough that is prepared in-store daily, three fresh trademark cheeses, and an original pizza sauce recipe, it has carved out a position for itself in the market for real Italian quality pizza.Marco’s has gone a long way from its humble beginnings, according to Butorac, who described it as ″a narrative of hard labor, courage, and endurance.″ ″I recall telling to Founder Pat during one of our early meetings, ‘you have a 1,000-store concept here,’ and to witness this historic occasion come to fruition is a true honor.″ Tony Libardi is promoted to the position of Co-CEO.
- On January 11, 2021, following a record-breaking year, Marco’s Pizza announced the promotion of Tony Libardi from president and chief operating officer to co-CEO and president.
- The promotion took effect on December 28, 2020, and is intended to help the company accelerate its growth strategy and strengthen the brand.
- In order to prepare for a long-term transition of leadership, Libardi joins forces with Jack Butorac, who has served as the company’s chief executive officer since 2004.
Marco’s is able to smoothly produce results, profitability, and growth for its franchisees and other stakeholders because of their deeply entrenched enthusiasm and understanding of leadership and innovation, which they have developed through time.13.Since joining the company from Burger King in 2014, Libardi has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments, including increasing same-store sales growth by more than tripling the number of locations and increasing profitability for franchisees.A restaurant operations veteran with 30 years of experience, Libardi put Marco’s in a position to accelerate growth by implementing a single point-of-sale system, instituting operational standards, launching Marco’s first national advertising campaign, and increasing digital sales through enhanced online ordering, the development of an iPhone app, and the adoption of third-party delivery services.
- This solid foundation, along with his laser-like concentration on performance and improved communication with his leadership team and the field, enabled him to guide the Marco’s Pizza team to an unprecedented year in 2020, despite the difficulties brought on by the pandemic.
- The Marco’s team achieved historic record-breaking sales, piloted new innovations, signed 114 new store commitments, and opened more than 70 new locations, including the brand’s milestone 1,000th store – all while supporting communities nationwide through the company’s ″You Can Count on Marco’s Pizza″ pledge.
- 16, According to Butorac, who is now chairman and co-CEO of Marco’s Restaurants, ″To say Tony is deserving of this promotion is an understatement.″ Marco’s has grown into a performance-driven culture that is focused on putting ‘People First.’ This has occurred under Tony’s guidance.
- Marco’s has more than doubled in size as a result of a fantastic collection of franchise partners.
- We are quite pleased with his passion and effort, as well as the overall influence he has made on this brand.
- We are entering a new phase of Marco’s as a national brand with more than 1,000 locations, and I am convinced that Tony will be a driving factor behind our continuing growth.″ 17.
Libardi expressed his gratitude by saying, ″It has been a pleasure to be a part of this brand’s incredible rise.″ Success has come as a result of a collaborative effort between our great senior leadership team, our dedicated Support Center, and all of our franchisees and team members at the store level who go above and beyond to fulfill our brand promise on a daily basis.″I am honored to take on this new job and continue to build on our brand’s enviable reputation as we propel Marco’s into the national limelight.″ 18.Libardi’s passion and commitment to Marco’s has not gone unnoticed despite his busy schedule. His efforts have been important in laying the groundwork for the Marco’s of the future, and he has set his sights on opening the next 1,000 locations.
Marco’s has been able to pivot and swiftly adjust its policies, operations, and marketing in order to fit with its future route by concentrating on three key areas: people, business, and community wellness.Several innovations and pilot programs were accelerated as a result of the pandemic, including the testing of ghost kitchens in several strategic markets, the rapid expansion of third-party delivery, the introduction of new contact-free delivery and curbside pickup options, and the testing of robotic kitchen innovations that improve efficiencies without compromising the quality or craftsmanship of pizza.Marco’s is devoted to the future, as seen by the company’s continued expansion and the signing of new partnerships throughout the COVID era.
- Expansion of the National Footprint continues.
- Marco’s Pizza said in early May 2021 that company was on track to have a record-breaking year in 2021, following a successful year in 2020.
- In addition to signing 88 new franchise agreements since the beginning of the year, the brand has also signed multiple area development agreements that will result in the addition of a total of 20 units to Colorado.
- This is all part of a larger strategy to increase the brand’s 1,000-plus unit footprint by more than 10% by the end of the decade.
″Our teams have been hard at work trying to minimize unit buildout costs while concurrently increasing sales,″ said Tony Libardi, co-CEO and president of Marco’s Pizza. This, along with the ease with which financing can be obtained, has provided an advantageous opportunity for both existing and potential franchisees to expand their businesses with Marco’s.The epidemic tested our ability to be flexible, and we responded by rapidly expanding third-party delivery, introducing new contact-free delivery and curbside pickup alternatives. This innovation will serve our network well for years to come.″ The History of the Company 22.Pat Giammarco, an Italian immigrant, created Marco’s Pizza in Oregon, Ohio, in 1978.

The first Marco’s location was a success, and over the next two decades, Giammarco gradually expanded the brand’s presence.By 1987, the firm had 32 sites around Ohio, half of which were company-owned and the other half of which were franchisees. At its peak in the early 2000s, Marco’s had more than 112 locations, the most of which were in Ohio and neighboring states.
- The year was 2002, when Giammarco met Jack Butorac, a restaurant industry specialist who was hired to conduct a feasibility study on three restaurant concepts, including Marco’s Pizza, that were considered possible development chances.
- Butorac was interested in Marco’s goods, but was dissatisfied with the lack of a clear brand identity that Marco had established.
