Dal Rice is considered the staple food of Indians, though with the ever-increasing craze of junk food and international cuisines, we have lost the touch of this very basic but equally delicious Staple food. So today I am here with this delicious Dal Fry recipe with a touch of Maharashtrian cuisine. Dal fry is also known as Phodaniche Varan in Marathi which means Seasoned Dal. One of the easiest and quickest recipe on the Indian Cuisine list, this is the first choice of most beginners. Made of Tuvar dal, this spicy dish gets its essence from its spices and seasoning. The Garlic and asafoetida adds the actual flavor to the Dal.
So let’s get started with the Dal Fry Recipe;

Cooking Time:15 Minutes
Total Time: 25 Minutes
Serves for 2.
Ingredients:
1) 1 small cup tuvar dal
2) 2 chopped green chillies
3) 1 chopped onion
4) 2 tbsp ghee
5) 5-6 chopped garlic cloves
6) 2 chopped tomatoes
7) 1 bay leaf
8) 1 tsp cumin seeds
9) 1 tsp mustard seeds
10) 4-5 curry leaves
11) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
12) Pinch of Hing(asafoetida)
13) Salt to taste
14) Chopped coriander leaves
Method:
Rinse the dal in water.
In a pressure cooker, cook the dal for 3 to 4 whistles on medium heat.
Once the pressure cooker settles down, add enough water and mash the dal.
Heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, chopped green chilies, chopped onion and sauté it for few minutes.
Immediately add this to dal and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes and salt.
Let it cook for another 5 minutes.
On the other hand, heat 1 tsp ghee, chopped garlic cloves, pinch of hing and sauté till garlic gets golden in colour and pour this to dal.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
It’s ready to serve.
How to make Dal Fry step by step with images:

Tip:
1) You can add red chilly powder in tempering for more spice.
2) You can use oil instead of ghee.
