Bhadang Recipe | Murmura Chivda | Puffed Rice Snack

Bhadang or Murmura Chivda is a Puffed rice snack that is simple and easy to make. Called “Bhadang” in Marathi, it is otherwise famous as “murmura or kurmura chivda” throughout India. Possibly one of the lightest snack made at home, this is delicious as well as low in calories. Ideal for weight watchers as well as the elderly. This light snack in filled with flavors of spices, crunch of peanuts and touch of crushed garlic. An authentic Maharashtrian snack, this can be stored in air tight containers for days. Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cooking Time: 15 Minutes

Total Time: 25 Minutes

 

Ingredients:

1) 1/2 kg puffed rice

2) 3/4 cup raw peanuts

3) 4 tsp red chilly powder

4) 1 tsp turmeric powder

5) Pinch of asafoetida

6)  8-9 Curry leaves

7) 12 curshed garlic cloves

8) 1 cup oil

9) Salt to taste

10) 1 cup powdered sugar

 

Method:

Heat oil in heavy bottom pan.

Add Peanuts and fry them till golden brown.

Add curry leaves, garlic cloves and sauté for a minute.

Reduce the flame, add red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt. Stir well.

Add puffed rice, gently mix and keep stirring for next 10-15 minutes.

Add powdered sugar and mix well.

Once it cools down, store it in an airtight container.
