Methamba is a sweet & spicy Maharashtrian relish that can be enjoyed along with dal rice or any rice based dishes. A great alternative to the usual pickle, this is great to pack for lunch boxes. Make sure you use sour raw mangoes for preparing this Methamba. The perfect blend of spice from the chilly powder, sweetness from the jaggery and sourness from the raw mango makes this Methamba delicious and tangy. This Methamba can be stored and enjoyed for about a week.

So, let’s get started with Methamba Recipe;

 

Preparation Time:15 Minutes

Cooking Time: 20 Minutes

Total Time: 35 Minutes

Serves for 2.

 

Ingredients:

 

1) 1/2 cup Chopped Raw Mango

2) 1/4 cup grated Jaggery

3) 1 tsp red chilly powder

4) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

5) 1/4 cup Water

6) Salt to taste

7) 2 tsp Oil

8) 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds

9) 1/4 tsp Asafoetida

10)  1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds

 

Method:

 

Heat oil for tempering, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.

Now add asafoetida, then add fenugreek seeds and wait till it makes a flavourous aroma.

Now add red chilly powder, turmeric powder,  chopped raw mango and stir them add little water if required, cover the pan and let the mango pieces cook.

Now add grated jaggery and salt and let it cook for 8-10 minutes.

Remove from flame and let it cool.

You can use it for next 7-8 days if you keep in a refrigerator.

5) Remove from flame and let it cool.
