Dal Palak

Dal palak is one of those recipes which is an awesome combination of dal and leafy veggies.

Recipe for dal palak is very easy and can be made with minimal ingredients at home.

The powerhouse of nutrients as it has proteins, iron, fiber and essential vitamins.

You can feed this dish to your young ones if they are not fond of green leafy vegetables.

Best eaten with steamed rice and chapati.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Total Time: 30 Minutes

Serves for 2.

 

Ingredients:

1) 1 bunch spinach

2) 2 Onion

3) 1/2 cup toovar dal

4) 1/2 cup peanuts

5) Ginger garlic paste

6) 1 tomato

7) Coriander leaves

8) 2 Green Chilies

9) Red Chili powder

10) Turmeric powder

11) Tamarind and jeggery pulp

12) Salt

 

For Tempering:

1) 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

2) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

3) pinch of Hing

4) Curry Leaves

 

Method:

Wash and chop spinach.

Pressure cook  toovar dal along with peanuts and chopped spinach for 3 whistles.

Chop Onion, tomato and chilies.

Mash toovar dal and spinach mixture and keep aside.

Heat a oil in a pan add mustard seeds once it crackle add cumin seeds,hing, curry leaves, ginger garlic paste, chopped green chilies and finely chopped onion.

Saute till it turn into golden brown.

Add chopped tomatoes.

Once oil separated from tomato ginger garlic paste and red chilly powder and then add toovar dal and spinach mixture.

Add salt, tamarind and jeggery pulp mix well and bring everything to boil.

In a small kadai add heat little oil and red chilli powder and give a nice tadaka to dal palak.

Add chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapati or rice.
