This is not only because of the health benefits but also because it is one of the easiest and quickest dishes to prepare. Bhagar Upma or Varicha Upma is an upma recipe made of the very healthy Barnyard Millet. Along with being low in calories and high in dietary fiber, barnyard millet is also helpful in controlling glucose level in diabetic patients. So, let’s get started with Bhagar Upma Recipe;

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cooking Time: 20 Minutes

Total Time: 30 Minutes

Serves for 2.

 

Ingredients:

1) 3/4 cup Samo seeds (vari tandul)

2) 2 & 1/2 cup warm water

3) 1 tbsp. ghee

4) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

5) 2-3 curry leaves

6) 2 chopped green chilies

7) Salt to taste

8) 2 tbsp. grated fresh coconut

9) chopped coriander leaves

10) Lemon

 

Method:

Heat 1 tbsp. ghee, add cumin seeds, curry leaves and chopped chilies and sauté for 2 minutes.

Add samo seeds and sauté them till they turn light brown in colour.

Add 2 and 1/2 cups warm water and salt, stir it.

Lower the flame and keep a lid on it.

Let it cook for 10 minutes on low flame.

Once it’s done, serve garnished with chopped coriander, fresh coconut and lemon.
